See All: Cheryl Woodcock Get It patrick dempsey

Having watched his mother cope with ovarian cancer, "Grey's Anatomy" star PATRICK DEMPSEY was inspired to lend a hand to other patients and their families struggling with the disease. To help, the actor made a large donation to his home town in Maine, which has now led to the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

"Well, my mother is a three-time ovarian cancer survivor and this is a town in which I grew up in," Patrick tells our CHERYL WOODCOCK. "It means a lot to me to return home and there was a real need for this and I think there is a lot of work that we can do here and I hope that we can make an impact on people's lives."

Patrick adds that "a lot of people are surviving cancer earlier," but points out that it is essential "to stop smoking cigarettes and diet."

In fact, the man who plays a doctor on TV -- who himself quit smoking -- was at the home of Hollywood power couple MIKE and IRENA MEDAVOY to support his own physician, DR. ROBERT HUIZENGA, the health specialist on NBC's "The Biggest Loser" and author of Where Did All The Fat Go?, out now.

"So, I am sitting here with Dr. McDreamy's doctor!" exclaims Cheryl, who attended the gathering with Patrick and Dr. Huizenga, playfully asking the TV surgeon: "Is this why you look so good because you have a doctor like him?"

"I wish I could take credit for him," Dr. Huizenga answers with a laugh.
